Mountain Kingdoms

General

Everything went like clockwork, with no hitches, and great hotels at the beginning and end of our trip. It certainly was a holiday that will remain for a long, long time in our memories. Thank you for arranging such a successful expedition … Bookended by three nights (and a horse-drawn carriage ride) in Marrakesh, this small-group adventure focuses on the rugged terrain below Toubkal, Morocco’s highest mountain.

  • I think we’ve been to all of Collett’s Walking Holiday locations except Andalucia and Tuscany although we have been to both of these locations independently.
  • Mountain biking on high altitude trails (e.g. Himalayan or Alpine destinations over 3000m).
  • Whilst ordinary travel polices might cover cycling, most don’t cover specialist mountain bike activities.
  • Snowcard cover has been tried and tested for 30 years with a claims service geared up to respond in a crisis including 24 hour assistance from International Medical Rescue.
  • Acute Mountain Sickness is more likely to occur if you go to high altitude too quickly and there is not enough time to acclimatise properly.

The traditional mudbrick Chez Momo II employs 15 local families. It feels luxurious, but is also deeply rooted in Amazigh culture. Plump olives hang low on trees framing a large pool, and there’s rooftop sunset yoga.

Both conditions are an emergency and can quickly result in death; descending to a lower altitude must be carried out immediately. If the signs of AMS are ignored and you continue to go higher, you are at risk of developing life threatening altitude sickness, High Altitude Cerebral Oedema and/or High Altitude Pulmonary Oedema . If you are climbing or trekking, then a slow, gradual ascent is advised. The best way to prevent AMS is to give your body enough time to acclimatise to being at a higher altitude.

Marble Mountain

And if there’s a 130mm travel fork up front, it’s ruled out. There are some outliers than we allow into the down-country fold. Otherwise the whole thing just gets far too close to a regular trail bike. So, no Norco Optic or Nukeproof Reactor 290c ST. Too trail-bikey.
